A unique identification number allocated to a person who is the appointed Director of the company is termed as Director Identification Number(DIN).

It is 8- digit number allotted by the Central Government after the applicant applies for Director Identification Number through Form DIR-3 or Spice+ as per the Companies Act 2013.

PURPOSE OF OBTAINING A DIRECTOR IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

FORMS REQUIRED TO ACQUIRE A DIRECTOR IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

1. Form DIR-3 – A form DIR-3 is required to be filed with the Registrar of companies for acquiring the DIN just in case the Director desires to appoint in an existing Company.
2. SPICe Form – If someone desires to become a Director in a new Company then the DIN may be obtained solely through spice form at the time of registration.

HOW TO OBTAIN A DIRECTOR IDENTIFICATION NUMBER?

• Download the form DIR-3 from the MCA portal.
• Fill in all the necessary details mentioned in form DIR-3 like Name of the person, Occupation, Mobile number, permanent address, PAN Card, Email-ID, and academic Qualification.
• The Director who is willing to appoint in an existing Company, the CIN of the prevailing Company must be prefilled.
• Attach the Digital Signature of the Director of the existing Company.
• Upload the form on the MCA portal and pay the mentioned fees.
• Once the payment is done, the challan will be generated where the DIN variety shall be consistently generated.

DIRECTOR IDENTIFICATION NUMBER ALLOTMENT                                  

• Once the Director Identification Number is generated, the Central Government will go through the application for the DIN thereafter it will further discuss and come to a decision that the application will be considered or not, if approved it will then inform the applicant through a letter or electronically within one month from the date of application.
• On the contrary, if the application is not approved due to any reason, Central authorities will further send a mail to rectify the information by resubmitting the form within a period of 15 days.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ASCERTAINING DIRECTOR IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

• Identity Proof: In the case of Indian Nationals PAN Card is mandatory and in the case of Foreign Nationals Passport is mandatory
• Address Proof: Aadhaar Card/Passport/Driving License/Voter’s Id Card/Electricity bill (not older than two months)

In the case of foreign Nationals, the address proof should not be older than 1 year.

WHY IS THE APPLICATION REJECTED?

Invalid Application:

• Expired or Invalid Documents
• Any Identity Proof not issued by the government
• Gender not specified correctly in Form DIR-3
• The Application or the evidence enclosed contains handwritten entries
• Documents supported are not self-attested.
• Submission of Duplicate DIN Application
• Submission of Application without the applicant’s photograph
• Signature not done on the specified place

Non-Submission of the Documents:

• The Identity proof, address proof, and Date of Birth of the applicant is not submitted
• The Copy of the Passport for the foreign nationals is not submitted
• The Identity proof of the father’s name of the applicant is not submitted
